Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
In Year 1 the children will be taught by
Miss McKirgan and Miss Shohid in 1H and Miss Kayitmaz in 1T. We also have Miss Dunlevey and Miss Parker.
Days to remember:
PE - Tuesday. PE kits have been given to the children and are kept in school. Please allow your child to practise getting dressed and undressed independently.
It is important that children do not wear jewellery to school, in particular hooped earrings. This is to keep them safe and prevent injury. They may wear small stud earrings if they have pierced ears.
Homework -
Homework is sent home on a Friday and needs to be returned to school by the following Tuesday. Your child will receive a piece of Maths homework and spellings linked to their current phonics phase.
Reading -
Please ensure that your child has their reading book in school every day and that their reading record is signed when they have read to an adult or an older sibling. Children will choose their own book between Monday-Thursday each week. Your child should be reading everyday for 10 to 20 minutes.
Our Year 1 environment
What we are learning in Year 1:
This term we will be studying the history of toys. We are also going to be exploring animals in Science. We will be continuing to look at a range of exciting texts in English, applying our phonics that we have been working hard at. In Maths we will be working at place value within 20.
