Year 6

Welcome to YEAR 6!

2024 -2025

Welcome to Year 6's class page. We're looking forward to an exciting year!

Across Year 6, the team are Miss Mannion, Mr Walton, Ms Hill, Miss Quinn, Mr Elsworth and Mr Morris.  We're all working hard this year to make sure Year 6s are prepared for SATs and and the big move to high school the children have ahead of them.

P.E

P.E. will take place on Tuesday every week.

Unlike previous years, we are asking children NOT to attend school in their P.E. kits. Instead, children should bring their P.E. kit in a bag, and will change in school.

PE Kit: Black leggings/tracksuit bottoms when cold or blue school shorts

            White or yellow t shirt

            School jumper

            Trainers.

Homework

In year 6, there will be 2 written pieces of homework per week:

Friday:

A maths sheet and a piece of English work is given out, to be completed and returned for Monday.

We ask for these to completed on the sheet, as we do not have homework books going home.

Alongside this, your children should be reading, or being read to, regularly at home throughout the week. They have access to an extensive online library on www.myon.co.uk - sometimes, projects will be set on Myon as additional homework tasks.

Supporting Your Child at Home

We ensure your children's needs are met and match the curriculum offer during school hours. However, we can offer access to Times Table Rockstars and MYON Reader at home if you require. Your child should know their logins, and both websites can be accessed on any device. If your child does not remember their login, they should ask their class teacher.

Children have also been given an email address which enables them to access Google Classroom. The staff will set tasks and provide useful links to support work completed in class.

Reading Books

Children can take home their Accelerated Reader books. We ask that children read these aloud to an adult, but they can also be read independently. When children finish a book, they must bring them back into school to complete a quiz on them. Once this has been done, they can change it for a new book. As children are in Year 6, we expect a degree of independence with this, but reluctant readers will be targeted in school.
